The CBS system (Composite Balance Score) is a breakthrough medical grade system that objectively provides accurate, fast and secure assessment of concussion (mTBI), head trauma, cognitive and balance disorders.

The CBS system records data in real time, establishes a patient baseline, a dynamic mean (by gender, age and demograhic), securely stores patient data, and provides accurate comparisons of new sessions to previous tests – thereby enabling objective diagnosis by the doctor of any head trauma (mTBI) or balance / sway deterioration (Risk of Fall).

How does the CBS system work?
A standard Composite Balance Score is derived from a patient performing three, non-invasive assessments. These tests are overseen by an accredited CBS Operator – who is not required to be medically trained.
The CBS system test consists of:
- A one minute (30 seconds eyes open, 30 seconds eyes closed Romberg test) balance assessment with an advanced force plate technology globally recognised as the gold standard for balance measurement
- A CHOICE decision making and memory recall assessment: to assess decision-making, planning and strategy, fine motor control and short-term memory; and
- A MAZE decision making assessment: to assess fine motor control, eye tracking, planning and strategy.
The results are used to derive a definitive individual Composite Balance Score. The accuracy of the results allow objective diagnosis to be made at the time of testing by a medically qualified person. An online doctor’s consultation is incorporated for marginal or “NO /GO” results if required.
The CBS system software records data in real time and compares one session to the next, using a personalized baseline for each patient. This baseline is used to make an objective assessment of any subsequent trauma or compare the patient with a peer group. To create a baseline, the one -minute balance test is undertaken three times. Subsequent tests only require the balance test to be performed once and reduces the test time to less than 5 minutes.
The CBS system includes a specifically developed and patented Rehabilitation suite of assessments, SPELL, PATHWAY and Loss of Stability (LOS). Each of these assessments uses bio-feedback to provide re-training of a patient’s balance and objective data on a patient’s progression / regression from an injury event(s). This allows accurate management of the patient by effective targeted treatment and a record of progress and evaluation of all treatment interventions.
The CBS system is unique in combining gold-standard balance & cognitive assessments, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of existing subjective tests while creating a new management system for the treatment of mTBI and Risk of Fall.

Secure Encrypted Database
The CBS system software is securely hosted locally on a tablet or laptop and can be uploaded to IsoGate. IsoGate is a patented, cloud based, secure and searchable database with multiple levels of encryption. IsoGate retains a complete history of every test undertaken and provides in-depth comparative analysis and report generation.
Baseline Assessments
The CBS system allows the establishment of three baseline tests per participant which allows a comprehensive measurement of their injury and subsequent rehabilitation. The patient’s baseline is updated with every additional assessment to maintain currency of the patient’s status.
A reference database also creates a “dynamic mean” from each test taken, allowing accurate comparison to peers in the same gender and age group demographic.
Unlimited Testing
The CBS system is capable of sustained, repeatable, accurate balance testing and has the capacity to store almost unlimited subject tests.
An annual fee is charged for unlimited testing providing minimal cost per test, and to ensure maximum user engagement.
Data and Forms
The CBS system contains a secure, efficient and easily managed form management system. This system allows additional customized forms to be created, and easy importing of other required patient history.
The form management system also allows the fast export of all records in either the native database format, Excel or CSV format for further analysis by the onsite operator or relevant authority or organization.
