A standard Composite Balance Score is derived from a patient performing three, non-invasive assessments. The accuracy of the results allow objective diagnosis at the time of the testing by a medically qualified person.
Composite Balance Score is the only two factor (balance & cognition) system that uses patented technology to provide objective scores to provide clinical guidance in the treatment of concussive events.
A One-Minute Balance Assessment (30 seconds eyes open, 30 seconds eyes closed Romberg Test) using advanced force plate technology, globally recognised as the gold standard for balance measurement.
A CHOICE decision making and memory recall assessment: to assess decision-making, planning and strategy, fine motor control and short-term memory.
A MAZE decision making assessment: to assess fine motor control, eye tracking, planning and strategy.
A standard CBS screening test takes between 3-5 minutes. A baseline tests takes between 5-8 minutes.
A baseline is an accurate “starting point” for an individual which allows future tests to be compared against so that a comprehensive measurement of any injury can be assessed, and subsequent rehabilitation can be effectively managed.
Within CBS, an individual’s baseline is updated with every additional assessment to maintain currency of their status.
It is important to remember that not every concussion is the same. Each patient and each concussive event must be treated independently and with a high level of caution.
An added feature of CBS is that a reference database also creates a “dynamic mean” from each test taken, allowing accurate comparison to peers in the same gender and age group demographic.
CBS collects data from the balance and cognitive assessments to provide clinical guidance in the treatment of concussive events. Assessment results also enable objective management of patient rehabilitation further assisting safe return to activity decision making.
The only information required to add a patient to the CBS system is their First Name, their Surname, their Gender and their Date of Birth.
A Unique Reference is also created for each patient to de-identify the data for secure storage purposes.
The CBS software is securely hosted locally on a laptop or tablet with assessment results uploaded to the cloud with multiple levels of encryption. The stored database retains a complete history of every test undertaken, is searchable and provides in-depth comparative analysis and report generation.
CBS is Approved as a Class 1 Medical Device by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia and is Approved and Export Listed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA.
All assessments are non-invasive. A patient is only required to step up, less than two inches on to the balance plate.
Following nearly 20 years of development, Composite Balance Score is now being released in Australia, the USA and the United Kingdom.
As systems are installed, information will be updated on our website www.cbscore.com.au . Please visit the site and leave your contact details so that we can stay in touch with all future developments.
Anyone who completes the full CBS training process can conduct a CBS Assessment. The training is easy to follow and you do not need to be a qualified medical professional to complete the program.
Once an assessment has been completed, the information is then provided to a medically qualified person to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan if necessary.
CBS provide both in person and online training options.
Providing a CBS system entails a number of key components including software, hardware, installation, training, volume of test and data storage requirements, warranty requirements and delivery.
Experience dictates that each potential customer has a different set of circumstances and thus different requirements. With this in mind and to ensure every quote provided offers maximum value, all inquiries should be made to global distribution partners MEDIsoTECH (www.medistech.com.au) or ian@medisotech.com.au
There is a detailed Help file built into every system simply go to the menu of the program > Help > User Guide
As long as you have the administrators login you can export and import between two or more systems.
Export Data
Click on the “Export Data” Tab to initialize the “Export” function.
- Select “Patient” or Select “ALL” Patients.
- Select an “Individual Session” or “ALL” Sessions.
- Select the “Format” “Database” (for exporting and importing into another system) “CSV” (excel style CSV), “Excel Report” (Excel style export with Graphing) or “ALL” Formats (ALL the possible Formats for Export including .xml).
- Include “Forms” ( Select this to include attached forms and scanned data)
- “Lock Data Storage” (selecting this makes the Thumb Drive or the CD/RW locked, so it cannot be overwritten. Use this for long term storage of the Patient’s data. Ensure you mark the media correctly and store appropriately.
- “Overwrite Data” will (if ticked) overwrite any existing data in the device to which you are exporting.
Import Data
- Click on the “Import Data” tab and the import screen will open.
- Use the “Source” tab to open the “Browse” dialog and locate the folder or thumb Drive / CD/RW you are importing from.
- The exported folders are date coded so locate the desired folder and click to select.
- The data will be detected * Check that you have selected the desired Patient data
Click to Import
There are many options available for test sequences.
Screening test: 2 x 30 second Eyes open / Eyes closed taken standing on the balance platform followed by a decision making and fine motor control test. 3 – 5 minutes
Baseline Test: A series of 3 – 2 x 30 second Eyes open / Eyes closed taken standing on the balance platform followed by a decision making and fine motor control test after the series of three balance tests has been completed. 6 – 8 minutes
Custom Balance Test: there is provision for you to create your own unique balance test and include a performance trigger which will activate in the event that the parameters that you have set are exceeded, or not met. 3 – 5 minutes
Rehabilitation
Pathway: A series of 6 x pathway test of increasing complexity. Using your body to move the COP (center of Pressure) 3 – 5 minutes
Spell: Spell out a series of words using your body to move the COP (center of Pressure) 2 – 3 minutes
.LOS (limit of Stability): Using your body to move the COP (center of Pressure) to travel the minimum distance from the center of a hub out to all angles in a radial sequence. 4- 5 minutes

This can occur if a patient stands on the plate before the plate has finished its “Calibration” routine. Simply press the “Reset Plate” button and allow time for the plate to re calibrate, then ask the patient to step on the plate and perform the test.
It is most likely that the USB cable has been damaged. The cable is subject to being trodden on and can sustain internal damage even though it looks ok. Please use a new Printer cable that is 3 meters long. Longer cables cause dropouts in the system due to loss in the cable, we do not recommend cables longer than 3 meters,
